“Sparks Fly” by Christos

Brisbane’s rising talent, Christos, has released another dynamic single with catchy beats, “Sparks Fly.” Another aspect of note is the lovely lyricism urging listeners to let that special someone know how much they truly mean. We had the pleasure of interviewing Christos, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: How did you decide on this beat? Did the tune form with the lyrics or was it something that came together in bits and pieces?

CHRISTOS: When I came across this beat It instantly caught my attention. The way it slowly comes in with the acoustic guitar at the beginning makes you think it’s gonna be a much slower-paced song but as soon as the drums come in the tempo is high. I took that exact approach when writing the song, building straight into the chorus which is fast-paced and upbeat. The instrumental made me picture a night sky full of stars, cruising along with a special person and enjoying every moment. The song can pretty much write itself when I’ve already got a vision like that in my head.

Q: What was the inspiration for “Sparks Fly”?

CHRISTOS: The inspo behind ‘Sparks Fly’ is doing everything in your power to show someone how much they mean to you and ultimately trying to win their love over. The song tells a story of taking this special someone far away & seeing sparks fly in the sky. ‘Sparks Fly’ was a feeling that came from inside, and it means you’re exactly where you’re meant to be in that given moment with this special person.

Q: What did you enjoy the most about creating this song?

CHRISTOS: I love being able to say whatever I feel in my heart and mind when I make music, it’s my chance to fully open up about things I’m usually hesitant to speak on. This song is about laying it all out on the table for somebody so I had to let myself get extra vulnerable in order to portray that exact feeling. On another note, something fun about making this track was sampling my own car for the car horns you hear at the start of the verse. I thought that was a pretty dope and personal extra touch to the song.

Q: How are you hoping listeners will respond to this song?

CHRISTOS: With all the music I make I intend to capture people whether that be through what I’m writing about in the song or another aspect of the track that they can resonate with. I always set out to make what feels right for me but also to engage with my audience and evoke memories they may have from experiences in their own lives. I think you just gotta keep being you and people will love you for doing that because it’s real.

Q: Which artist would you say has had a significant influence on your sound?

CHRISTOS: These days I would say most of my influence purely comes from the music I’m already creating as well as things that are happening in the course of my own life. I listen to a lot of different music and I think that reflects on my own sound as I don’t like to stick to just one style, I love mixing it up. A big inspiration of mine who I felt did this amazingly in their career was XXXTentacion. I feel like right now a lot of my newer music is heading in a more Alt Pop direction and in that sense, I really like what artists such as Tom The Mail Man, Dro Kenji, and 44phantom are doing just to name a few!

Q: What would you like to say to your supporters?”

CHRISTOS: Whether you’ve been rocking with me since the beginning or are just joining the journey now, I appreciate you and the time you’ve taken to support my art. I can confidently say 2023 is going to be a huge year with much more music to come. No matter how many years I’ve been working at this dream, it’s still very much the beginning so strap in because we got a whole lot more coming!
