“Candy” – Elaz

When it came time to kick things into gear, Elaz started with a cover of a classic among those of us who stand on the outside; Radiohead’s “Creep.” It showcased this was a duo with an affection for the darker synth of the ‘80s. Soon after came a beautifully done debut, “Wish You Were Here” which put the vocals in the spotlight. With their most recent single, they took the musical ways of the cover, the vocals of the second, and pumped up the gothic vibes, and delivered something sweet with “Candy.”

A perfect song for this time of year, “Candy” starts with this sing-song manner that sounds similar to the way a witch would go about saying whatever they needed to say to bring the magic to their brew. Think Bette Midler in ‘Hocus Pocus’ but in a version that was a shade darker than the family-friendly, Halloween traditional watch. Elaz says this song is not about witches though, but about a pair of sisters, a cult, and an initiation sacrifice. Not the subject matter one hears every day, but when done in this way – it works.

Elaz is a dynamic twosome that can blend tragic with beauty and come out with music that is fit for those who are tired of the same thing on the radio every single day. They take the gothic allure and blend it with alternative rock moments and a pinch of indie, brewing up their own magic. “Candy” is available now on all major music and streaming platforms, and guaranteed to satisfy your musical sweet tooth.
