“YA SHXT OUTSIDE” Journei Eloise

“YA SHXT OUTSIDE” is a track from May that still deserves listen after listen. For anyone who missed it, now is the time to check it out, as its amazing production, beautiful R&B flow, and raw lyricism make it a really strong release from this year!

Journei Eloise’s “YA SHXT OUTSIDE” is one of those tracks that makes listeners just want to say, “Wow.” It has a really gorgeous lo-fi R&B beat filled with reverby synths and a buzzy, plucky electric guitar. The vocals weave and bounce along with perfection, and there’s a great mix of rhythm and melody. Sometimes the vocals are a slow flow forward, notes gliding along beautifully. Sometimes, they have a punchy snap to their flow. The harmonies are beautiful. The atmosphere built is smooth but snappy. The production brings everything to life, even though there are softer lo-fi vibes. There’s so much to love about this track, and it feels like a cool evening that lies somewhere in the middle of Summer.

On top of this gorgeous music, there is some lyrical depth and relatability. It comes from the perspective of someone who was played with when they loved someone. Even though they wanted to be with this other, all it brought was hurt without change. Likely, due to the cocky nature of this partner, they didn’t expect to be left in the dust, but as Journei says in the chorus, “Now all your shit outside.” This is a track about finding one’s own power to get out of a situation that isn’t worth it. There’s the sadness of the breakup, but there’s also the aspect of standing up for the self. Despite the hurt, the main voice of the track takes back their own power.
