“Used To Be Hers” by Manny Cabo

We have heard it said many times over how important it is to always let your loved ones know you love them while you can because life is short and anything can happen suddenly. “Used To Be Hers” by Manny Cabo fully embodies this sentiment. If you’ve ever lost a loved one and you regret not telling them you loved them enough, this song is for you. You are not alone. We had the pleasure of interviewing Manny Cabo, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: “Used To Be Hers” has an awesome build-up and a highly-emotive lyricism! What was your songwriting process for this song?

CABO: The songwriting process for me is always simple I write from the heart and something that’s emotionally involved. And for my own experiences especially recently I realized the power of regret of not telling someone that you love them enough especially if they meant the world to you. We all take things for granted until they are no longer here and hopefully the song will help you realize the value of our current existence on this earth.

Q: Hmm…That’s so true! What is your favorite memory from creating this song?

CABO: My favorite memory is feeling the absolute joy of finding the right parts or more importantly the right words that fit the extension of what my heart was feeling at the moment when I was in bracing the visual part of it because I see songs as videos and it’s crucial for me for the words to tell that picture.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life that set you on your path as a musician?

CABO: I remember going to my first concert in eighth grade to see AC/DC… The rest was history!

Q: I see you were a 4-chair turner on The Voice season 9, what did you take away from this experience and how has it influenced your music?

CABO: The Voice taught me so many things principally to embrace every single moment and not solely focus on the 90 seconds of the performance because if you do that it’ll pass you by in a blink of an eye. I learned at that point that it wasn’t even about singing it was about utilizing my voice to inspire, empower and educate the fellow contestants, and they all looked up to me as their leader so in actuality it gave me a purpose and that is to elevate those around me and embrace their talents as well.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist right now, who would it be? Why?

CABO: Well without a doubt it would have to be Paul McCartney unfortunately my biggest idol John Lennon as we all know left this earth way too soon, but as a huge beetle fan the one person that would undoubtedly empower me to write even more music would be Paul McCartney on all levels. He’s just a walking mastermind of music as evidenced by his long tenure in this industry and the massive amount of accolades he has acquired.

Q: Do you have any parting words for your supporters?

CABO: The only parting words that I have is that life is short, whatever it is that you decide to do make sure that you have complete and utter passion for it because as I learned from Steve Jobs working at Apple if you don’t the nudge of negativity will always be pushing you to quit. But more importantly, help others on their journey and share your experiences to help others grow so we could put more love and peace into the world that so desperately needs it!
