“The Memory” – Magz

“The Memory” by Magz is a serendipitous intersection between beautiful, skillful vocals, poignant writing, and delicately ethereal production. Each vocal trill, synth swell, or thought-provoking lyric is a small yet mighty contribution to this masterpiece. It’s one of those songs that leaves you so thoroughly convinced of the artist’s staying power and ultimate potential. The authenticity and talent are simply unmatched.

“Ran across the driveway / Did it all to see your face / Back then I was naïve / Never thought I’d be replaced,” Magz gently croons over a cloud of twinkling synths. Piano chords hold down warm whole notes, but overall, the instrumentation remains simple. The vocals soak up most of our attention, dotted with phrasings, rhymes, runs, and flourishes meant to infuse each lyric with this genuine, raw intimacy. Just before the chorus, a reverb-drenched amalgamation of doubles chimes in, and we’re propelled into something a bit busier. New synths perform bright hits, as covered drums thump in the background. The mix fills up with dreamy, decadent echoes as the catchy melody drives the momentum. A few belted lines later, we melt back into the verse.

Stay tuned for much more songwriting genius from Magz—including but not limited to—a heart-wrenching bridge, a broken-down chorus, and a touching tagline. If you like youthful, melancholy pop music, you’ll love “The Memory.” Be sure to give Magz a follow, a like, and a download on your choice of social media platform or streaming service. You’ll be glad you got to know her brilliant artistry!
