“Take Your Love” – Kristen Plati

“Take Your Love” by Kristen Plati is the epitome of retro synth pop. It’s oozing with influences, from Dua Lipa to Madonna to Carly Rae Jepsen–and while it is nostalgic in that way, it’s also jarringly catchy, memorable, and distinctive. You will, undoubtedly, find yourself humming this tune under your breath after a listen or two.

The verse begins as Kristen chimes, “So I guess I’m kind of into you,” setting in motion this carefree, lighthearted atmosphere. The drums and synths lay low under her acrobatic melody. They piece together this tight, quiet accompaniment, often indicative of a fuller chorus. Lo and behold, when the chorus does kick in we’re gifted with a sudden burst of instrumentation. “So maybe tonight…” she croons as the vocals flush with layers of octaves and doubles. The bass saturates the mix as the drums become harsher, groovier, and busier. Synth hits emphasize different rhythms with fuzzy, vibrant chords. This is the point at which you realize you’re dancing along without even noticing. The chorus has this infectiousness woven into it. No one aspect of it can even take the credit– it’s the amalgamation of them all that makes it so decadent.

If any of this sounds like it might be up your alley, give this one a listen. You’ll find a few surprises in the rest of the song (gorgeous harmonies, powerful vocal runs, etc…), and probably a new favorite artist in the process. Be on the lookout for Kristen Plati, and be sure to check out her other music as well!
