“Striking Out” – Britta Raci

With bold lyrics and an edgy pop rock sound, LA-based artist Britta Raci has released her debut EP Striking Out, as her first solo project. The singer was the front woman for rock group “It’s Butter” which was described as making “happy music for anxious people,” before Raci decided to pursue a solo career.

Raci has always felt a strong tie to storytelling and music, when talking about what her artistry means to her, she shared, “The only thing I could hope that people take away from my art is the feeling that they are not alone; I want people to know that being open with their emotions and being honest with themselves is nothing to hide from.”

The EP opens with lead single and title track, “Striking Out,” which immediately delivers on Raci’s raw storytelling with lyrics that cut straight to it. She sings, “I’m giving it up / I’m letting you go / I’m bashing my brain with a baseball hat.” Raci’s sound is great for those who are fans of Maisie Peters and Olivia Rodrigo, she has a fierce attitude and a distinct tone. It is clear she is not afraid to take leaps and experiment with her sound.

“Benchwarmer” is accompanied by a cinematic music video. The song solely written by Raci, the music video was written and directed by Preston Maestri. The video parodies the Bachelor, with Raci always feeling second best to another woman in the video. The glittery production as this lighter than air effect that lines up with modern hits like “please please please” by Sabrina Carpenter.

Throughout the project, Raci is cleverly able to weave in these references to baseball without it ever feeling forced. Her songwriting is honest and fun, she takes risks, and it is exciting to watch her bloom as an artist. Her edginess is unique, and she has this real vulnerability that people can really connect to.
