TEHYA has once again astounded with beautiful vocals from the heart that pair well with emotional lyricism in her new track “Pick Up”.
The opening guitar line has a moderate flow, with vocals quickly cutting in with a smooth tone that sounds so full. Some chimey synths then cut in, before an exciting, quick-paced ukulele takes the forefront of the instrumentation. There are also backing “ahh” harmonies that fill the track up with so much life. The ups and downs in the sound do play into an emotional rollercoaster, and though the genre basis is indie pop, there’s a bit of an anthemic folk influence as well. The production and mix are clean, and the vocals take the stage without taking away from how beautiful the instrumentation is. The percussion is also really strong, with the pertinent hits driving great energy, though the pacing is held back enough to retain the emotion that’s established at the start. Also, with the dynamic flow, every part of the instrumentation finds a chance in the spotlight. This is a great new release that should be on anyone’s radar!
“Pick Up” is about friendship, but one that’s close and important. As a friend is there for the voice of the track through the good and bad times, feelings start to develop. Not necessarily romantic, but a platonic connection that’s deeper than the average friendship. That’s the main narrative of this track. As the main voice has this friend show up through struggles in prior relationships, and they’re always there when needed, it builds a connection that feels closer than an average friendship. It’s about trust, connection, and love for someone who shows up when needed.
