Every generation’s definition of success is different, and with the internet being what it is and making celebrities out of thin air based on things like YouTube views – the pressure to be something before high school is even over is on Gen Z with people like New York’s Emei. So much so, she decided to pen a response to all the pressures to have your name in lights by 17, “Late to the Party.”
While the idea of success is tailor-made for each new generation, that feeling that you are lacking compared to your peers is nothing new. As someone older than Emei, I felt every word of “Late to the Party” that touched on feeling a certain type of way because those who are my age have settled into legit careers, own homes, and would impress at a reunion of sorts while I am basically a few inches from where I was when I grabbed a diploma for the first time. However, when she gets to the meat of this track – you have to take it to heart and realize that there is no rush and success comes to everyone at their own pace.
Emei hits the nail on the head with her alt-pop wonder not only for those her age but for the majority of us who’ve sadly sat in similar boats pondering our own paths in life. So feel less alone and inspired, check out “Late to the Party,” out now on all major music and streaming sites.
