“In My Head” by Kid Prexy

The talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Kid Prexy has dropped another catchy modern pop-punk song, “In My Head.” It is a departure from his usual choice of breakup songs, as it focuses on love and the happiness that comes with finding that special someone. We had the pleasure of interviewing Kid Prexy, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: I like how spirited “In My Head” sounds! What was your inspiration for this song?

KID PREXY: My inspiration for this song was definitely Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. I love the way MGK’s music sounded and one of the first covers I did by him was “I Think I’m OKAY,” and I wanted to create music with that modern pop-punk sound. I’ve played guitar my entire life, so I thought it would be a great genre of music to explore for my next EP project.

Q: Can you walk me through your creative and production process for this song?

KID PREXY: I first started with the acoustic guitar for the intro and then made a chord progression that fits the intro. I then added lyrics onto that. Since a lot of my music was about overcoming breakups and sadness, I wanted this new song to have a happy vibe and I wrote it about finding the person that makes you so happy that you want to spend all your time with them. I had the framework for the song and flew to L.A. to record it with my producer and we finished up the song in a couple days and I wrote the guitar solo during that studio session.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life that set you on your path as a musician?

KID PREXY: I have always liked music and when I was 8 years old my dad signed me up to take guitar lessons at the School of Rock. I had played in lots of their bands and performed concerts singing and playing the guitar covering many different styles of music, rock, pop, blues, punk, and alternative. etc. When I was 13 years old, I thought I could make my own music and during quarantine, I spend time writing lots of songs. My initial inspirations were JuiceWrld, Xxxtentacion, The Kid Laroi, MGK, and Powfu. I was taking lessons for drums, vocals, and guitar and I wanted to start learning more about music production, so my first EP: Broken Promises started as just a way to learn how to record my own music in the studio. Those first songs were emo and melodic rap style, my next project had a lo-fi chill acoustic vibe and this new EP is in the alt-rock pop-punk genre which is really fun to play.

Q: Who are your top 3 favorite artists that you think have had a significant influence on your sound?

KID PREXY: Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, and Jxdn.

Q: What are 3 key aspects of your musical roadmap for this year?

KID PREXY: I am just trying to learn how to improve as a songwriter and focus on continuing to grow as a guitarist and musician. I performed my first Kid Prexy concert, which was a 12-song set of my original music, and it was amazing watching people sing along to my music. This year is a new chapter for me since I already recorded four songs with the alternative rock and pop punk sound and “In My Head” was the first song released from those new tracks.

Q: What would you like to say to your supporters?

KID PREXY: I want to say thank you so much to everyone that listens to my music. I really appreciate all of your comments and letting me know that you loved a particular song and sharing stories about how my music helped or inspired you. I love all of you and I’m glad that you are going on this music journey with me.
