“How Can I Hold You” by Maia Onda

Sometimes a warm hug is all that is needed in those really dark moments to let someone know you’re there for them. Austrian Singer-Songwriter and Producer Maia Onda’s newest release “How Can I Hold You” beautifully acknowledges the importance of hugs and simply being available, even when the person hurting isn’t ready to talk. We had the pleasure of interviewing Maia Onda, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: What was your inspiration for this song?

ONDA: When writing this song, my producer Paul Falk and I quickly started writing about unconditionally being there for loved ones, since it is a topic we both related to on each side of the story.

Q: What was your songwriting process for “How Can I Hold You”?

ONDA: The song already had a heartwarming feel to it, therefore we had very positive stories in mind. We quickly had the topline for the hook and the verses felt like they were writing themselves directly after. We finished the song the same day and only had to add small finishing touches the following day.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a musician and a producer?

ONDA: I truly love the feeling of creating, whether it be lyrics, an arrangement, or composing melodies- the process just gives me so much joy. And then of course, gifting a finished song to an audience and actually being able to have an impact on people, feels very rewarding as well.

Q: What do you do to get your creative juices flowing when you feel stuck while creating a song?

ONDA: I rarely run out of topics to write about, but I do experience a block to finish songs sometimes. Usually, it helps me, to lessen the pressure and take a break, to then get back to writing placeholder lyrics.

Q: What drives you to make music?

ONDA: More than anything, it just gives me joy! I have been writing, singing, and producing from an early age and it just resonates with me so deeply to create artistically. There is also an ultimate goal to realise my ideas and show them to people.

Q: What projects are currently in the works?

ONDA: I am currently working on my debut album! I cannot wait to share and perform it later this year.

Q: That sounds exciting! Good luck!
