“Columbus, Ohio” – nellie

Having only ever lived in one state since the day I entered this world, I thought – I’ll never leave. Why would I abandon year-round good weather and a beach mere blocks from my apartment? Well, the answer is simple – love. So when I heard “Columbus, Ohio” by nellie, I couldn’t help but get all warm and toasty inside because when it comes to being with your person…location takes a backseat.

After a couple of years doing the long-distance relationship shuffle, nellie and her beau were finally in New York City together. A first date involving one too many drinks, the perfect amount of nonsensical fun, and a conversation about her partner’s native Columbus, Ohio led her to pen the song featured here today. A New Yorker for life, nellie realized that perhaps she could relocate to Ohio one day because no matter where you reside, as long as you have that one person who makes waking up worth it – the address your packages get left is sort of obsolete.

Like those mail carriers, nellie delivers this song perfectly. It’s got this fun, folk meets pop sing-a-long feel that makes you want to tap your toes while dancing around your room while performing to your bedroom mirror with a hairbrush in hand. It’s also a great song for anyone wondering if that big move is worth it. As someone who just went from what some would all ideal to a smaller city vibe, it’s always worth a shot.
