“Victoria’s Secret” – Jax

“…pressure I was under to lose my appetite.”

Back when low-rise jeans were making me feel like the ugliest girl in the world, there were only two songs I could turn to; “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera and “Unpretty” by TLC. That’s it. Everywhere else I turned I heard and saw the same message in various ways, I was not enough because my body was too much. Today, that is a sentiment that sounds wild because artists have stripped away that sentiment and replaced it with a plethora of body-posi, self-love musical affirmations for us to hold onto. One of the latest being Jax with her brand new single, “Victoria’s Secret.”

The latest from Jax is this wonderful display of melodic honesty that packs a punch. You can’t help but sing along as it’s a fun pop song with a little edge that would fare well on a playlist with the likes of early Demi Lovato and Avril Lavigne. On top of the great vocals, Jax brings to the table along with the music, what sticks out most is the playful, yet poignant lyrics. Jax takes a jab at one of the largest retailers to place insane expectations on women’s bodies while at the same time taking moments here and there to dive into her struggles that feel all too familiar.

For as long as women have existed, so too has this idea of perfection. Whether it was generationally passed down from a grandmother telling her granddaughter not to eat her dessert, to the constant barrage of “perfect” we see in the media – it’s always been there. Only in recent years though has the pushback begun, and it’s clear that with artists such as Jax in the driver’s seat, we’ll push those ideas out of here soon enough. To hear “Victoria’s Secret” make sure to check out Jax on all major music and streaming sites today.
