“Things I Didn’t Say” – Zarenae

With rising popularity and incredible resilience, California based artist Zarenae has released her new EP Things I Didn’t Say, available everywhere now. The influence for the project came after Zarenae was struck in a car accident that led to a Traumatic Brain Injury. After she spent 6 months recovering and unable to make music, she felt more inspired than ever to share her real-life stories. Zarenae has always seen music as a form of escape and even shared she hopes to help fans in that way to stating, “My goal, whether it’s in a 3-minute song or a two-hour set, is to help people forget everything going on around them, so they can have fun and dance!”

The lead single on the track “Snooze” lets Zarenae set her boundaries. She is tired of letting him back in her life opening with the track by singing “you snooze, you lose.” The singer references a big influence for her sound is R&B, more specifically from the 90s. It comes across in the sultry lyrics and the smooth falsetto along with the production.

The five song track ends with the heartbreak ballad “Soul Ties,” again getting wrapped up with someone that she wants to be with but does not know if it is meant to be. The song cleverly uses religious references like prayers, blessing, and confessionals. Zarenae tries to reason with herself but knows that he is not going to change for her no matter how much she wants him to.

Overall, it is admirable that Zarenae does not hold back on how she feels, telling her stories straight from the heart. She is able to blend this serious passion with an equal amount of playful sass. She has a real fun and electric sound that would fit right alongside pop princesses like Arianna Grande and Dua Lipa.
