With one parent who was forced to pray as a child, and another who welcomes the holy spirit with open arms – so many aspects of religion and church have, well, escaped me. Many except music. There is something so warm, inviting, and enchanting about sounds that evoke the gospel nature of music. This is why I found myself constantly going back to the chorus of “The Giver” by Lodet time and time again.
That is not to say the verses that hold up “The Giver” are to be tossed aside, but they are more the appetizers that give way to the decadent choruses that hold this song up high for all to hear. Placed in the midst of his debut album, ‘My Bonnie,’ “The Giver” finds a way to marry the vitality of an indie pop song with the masterful ways of folk songwriting. All while wrapping it up in this gospel-inspired bow. Lodet’s most recent single is definitely a spirited burst nestled between the narrative ways of “Welcome to Italy” and heartfelt “Qi.”
Lodet has only been releasing music for a few years now but has been a consistent delight. Nine songs deep, Lodet’s debut album, ‘My Bonnie’ offers quite the array from the ones that make you feel the embrace of the gospel to others that showcase his satisfying songwriting abilities. To hear all of the above and more like his EP, ‘Many Days,’ make sure to check out Lodet on all major music and streaming sites today.
