“The Devil Works All Year Long” – KimberlyMorgan York

“The Devil Works All Year Long” by KimberlyMorgan York is a good-ol fashion, sinister southern warning, ironically sung by a sweet-sounding voice. York taps into her country instrumental bag with what sounds to be twangy banjos and an upbeat tune about the devil, a typically scary and low-vibrational figure in religious iconography. She describes in her lyrics the idea of temptation, making mistakes, constant challenges, and distractions that can occur at any time or place. York repeats to her friend, “Halloween is over darling, but the devil works all year long,” as a reassuring but warning metaphor to show how negative influences will always impact people’s continuous struggles in maintaining their paths.
