“Tell Him” – Moonchild x Lalah Hathaway

Whether avoiding the 405 by heading south on La Brea or coasting up PCH on a day off, “Tell Him” by Moonchild featuring Lalah Hathaway is the perfect co-pilot as the west coast-based band wonderfully captures the calm, cool, collected ways of California in their latest single from their February 2022 release, ‘Starfruit.’

As someone who just said goodbye to the Golden Coast for the first time in their life, “Tell Him” sonically took me back. With a little funk in its step and an overall laid back tone, it reminded me a lot of the music you’d find on the hit HBO series, ‘Insecure.’ Only it’d be one of the songs that either played at the start or the end as the credits started to roll due to its strength of being able to be a bookend to the dramady. Vocally, this song has wodnerfous amounts of pleasantries thanks to Moonchild’s Amber Navran and Hathaway…despite the story behind the song not being too pleasant as it tells the tale of when one partner’s words are met with blank stares.

Moonchild have been giving their retro take on Neo-Soul since their debut, ‘Be Free,’ dropped back in 2012. Since then they’ve churned out a number of notable releases including ‘Please Rewind’ and their last album, 2019’s ‘Little Ghost.’ Now they are back at it with ‘Starfruit,’ due out on February 11, 2022. Alongside Lalah Hathaway, Moonchild also collaborated with more notable acts on their fifth release like Tank and The Bangas, Ill Camille, and more.

“Tell Him” is available on all major music and streaming platforms now.
