“Taylor” – Oceanic

We had the pleasure of interviewing Oceanic, and here’s what they had to say:

Q: What was your inspiration for the melody?

OCEANIC: Our artist friend, Zach Beaver, helped form the chorus melody. I think originally I wanted the song to be very low-tempo and muted, like Change Of Heart by The 1975. Ended up quite different!

Q: I love the vocals! What’s the story behind the lyrics?

OCEANIC: The lyrics are about our band best friend, Taylor. She’s someone who supported us in many ways throughout college, inspiring the hopeful lyrics of the song. We wrote it for her birthday in 2017.

Q: What do you like the most about writing songs?

OCEANIC: I love creating something with my friends, tapping into the universe for just a little bit of time. It’s like a window into a new world.

Q: What would you like your music to say?

OCEANIC: I’d like it to encourage people to look inward and think deeply about themselves, other people, and the world around them!

Q: How do you all balance your music careers with your social life/other obligations?

OCEANIC: It’s an ongoing process. Right now, we’re just arranging our time so we can be regularly making a ton of new music!

Q: How would you describe the band in threewords?

OCEANIC: Tryna. Be. Coldplay. ^-^
