“Taboo” – Andrew Caryl x Robbie Rosen x ColorMind

We had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Caryl, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What is the story behind or what inspired this collaboration?

CARYL: Robbie and I have been working on songs together for a few years now. He’s a massive all-around talent. ColorMind and I met just last year. The track for “Taboo” was originally his idea. When I heard it, I immediately reached out to him about collaborating on the production. The idea was to create a somewhat Bruno Mars inspired funky, fun, and sexy pop track. I think we did a pretty good job!

Q: What was your creative and production process for “Taboo”?

CARYL: “Taboo” started as a funky pop track idea that ColorMind came up with. I reached out to Robbie since his voice is a perfect fit for this style of song. It was Robbie who came up with the name “Taboo” and the idea behind the lyrics. ColorMind and I worked on getting the track as funky as we could – with a lot of detail and time spend tweaked the hi-hat and bass lines to get it just right.

Q: How do you want this song to make listeners feel?

CARYL: Taboo is about meeting someone that you want to be with even though it may not be a viable relationship. It’s sexy, funky, and cool. When people hear the song I want them to feel uplifted, and happy – like anything is possible if it seems otherwise.

Q:  How long have you been creating music and what do you enjoy most about it?

CARYL: I have been creating music for a very long time. But 2020 is the year that everything changed due to Covid. That’s when I started really diving into writing and producing pop, EDM, and indie pop music both for my own projects as well as for other artists, TV, and film. I love the creative process. I love building a song out of nothing. Starting with a simple idea and then hearing the final result. I love how music makes people feel. That’s the whole idea – to create a backdrop for people’s lives. The songs that will be the backdrop to their memories.

Q: Aside from making music, what do you spend the bulk of your time doing?

CARYL: I love to travel, just got back from a 2-week trip to Japan. I have travelled the world. I love experiencing other cultures and meeting new people.

Q: I think this is a lovely collaboration. Can we expect to hear more songs from it?

CARYL: You bet. We have a new song called ‘Flowers’ already in the works that ColorMind and I are producing and although Robbie isn’t singing on it, he did the vocal production. The vocals on it are by Alessa – she’s amazing and is going to blow your mind.
