“Solar Drive” – Elajah Mouhammed

Elajah Mouhammed may be a New York City-based artist, but his latest single just took my heart back to California. As soon as “Solar Drive” started, I was back on the path that runs along the Long Beach sands getting my cardio on as those in the local roller skating community practiced on empty courts.

“Solar Drive” is like early Pharrell meets Childish Gambino meets Bruno Mars in that it has this very straightforward vocal performance delivered in a cool fashion over a beat that has a vintage bite to it. On top of all of that, you can’t help but want to move along to the story that is unfolding with each new line dropped, “You don’t ever have to feel lonely cause I’ll be your best friend and your homie.” A great, simplistic line that does not hide what this song is all about.

This carefree tale of romance shined like the sun out west is the latest from Elajah Mouhammed’s 2021 EP, ‘The Curious Die Young,’ and falls in line with other tracks such as “Knock On Wood” and “Modern Times!” Those songs come with a more pop feel, while other tracks that round out the EP display another side of what this hip-hop artist can do. His recent EP is his second record since dropping his debut ‘Survival of the Fittest’ in 2020.

Fans of artists like Chance the Rapper and Bryce Avenue can check out ‘The Curious Die Young’ out now on all major music and streaming sites.
