“Seasons of Love” – Softly Spoken

Fans of easy-listening music and simplicity will be captivated by the unique musical qualities of “Seasons of Love,” the debut album from rising artist Softly Spoken. The album, with its stripped-down arrangement of just a guitar and angelic vocals, manages to convey a depth of emotion and complexity that is truly remarkable.

“Seasons of Love” takes listeners on a journey through its nine beautifully intertwined songs. The album’s opening track, “Hey,” sets a bittersweet tone with its melancholic guitar melody and the repeated plea, “I want to hold your hand.” The following song, “My Person,” brings a more upbeat feeling, akin to the excitement of a new relationship.

A personal favorite is “Happysad,” a song that truly encapsulates the album’s ability to evoke nostalgia. The song has an infectious melody played on the guitar and its lyrics delve into the confusing emotions of falling in love. The track feels like a throwback to the early 2000s music scene, somewhat reminiscent of artists like Damien Rice.

Songs like “Scar” and “Pieces” are similar to lullabies, with their peaceful, comforting melodies. The beautiful guitar instrumental with the humming in “Pieces” feels like floating on a cloud. Whereas the opening of the album begins on a more bittersweet note, the album ends on a bit of a sadder note. “Miss You” creates the powerful feeling of missing someone so deeply.

The album concludes with “Circles,” a song that navigates the complexities of a relationship that constantly repeats itself. Despite the inevitable end, the song leaves listeners with a sense of hope, assuring them that even in the face of losing friendships, everything will eventually be alright.
