“Run My Time” – Gretchen

From the opening harpsichord notes, “Run My Time” by Gretchen transported me to a place that is filled with whimsy and wonder. I love how Gretchen switches her singing flow in the second verse and adds harmonious adlibs in the background, it gives the song a alternative-pop texture to it. The lyrics comes across as a call to arms for authenticity and self-assurance as Gretchen urges her love interest to meet her halfway in the pursuit of mutual understanding and acceptance. Whether it is accepted or not isn’t the focus, but the longing in the lyrics are so palpable. This is the type of song you would definitely listen to during a long car drive home from the city late at night, pondering about the person who keeps you up at night.
