We had the pleasure of interviewing Gveedoune, and here’s what he had to say:
Q: What was your songwriting process for “Packmaster”?
GVEEDOUNE: The process of writing this song began in an unusual manner for me. One day, my friend and I were walking through Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. While strolling through this beautiful city, we encountered a pack of dogs. There were about 10 of them, and to our surprise, they were incredibly friendly (dogs in Tbilisi are known for their friendliness). They began treating us as pack leaders, quite literally and accompanied us as we explored the city.
After a while, I started playing around with some chords and humming a melody. I turned to my friend and asked him what this song could be about. He suggested, “What about the leader of the pack?”
Q: How did this tune come to you? Did it flow at once or did you have to take breaks before completing it?
GVEEDOUNE: Initially, I came up with the guitar tune and set it aside for a week. Later, I started working on the beat, incorporating sounds from improvised instruments such as tapping a table with a pencil, clapping hands, and more. These elements added a unique touch to the beat. The majority of my time was dedicated to the mixing process. I wanted the track to possess depth, energy, and an unconventional essence.
Q: What projects are currently in the works?
GVEEDOUNE: Currently, I am preparing for an upcoming release for my side project —a collaboration with several artists from France, it’s in a different style of music, closer to dance music. I’m also in the process of preparing another new single for Gveedoune in some kind of indie disco funk-ish style.
Q: What advice would you give someone interested in becoming a musician?
GVEEDOUNE: My advice to aspiring musicians would be to create and perform music for yourself and your audience, rather than for the sake of your ego.
Q: What’s your favorite album? Why?
GVEEDOUNE: It’s hard to choose just one, as there are a lot of them. However, if I had to pick one, I would say “Led Zeppelin – The Song Remains The Same.” This album and the band were among the first to captivate my heart when I was a child. I still admire it for its unique sound and daring musical experiments, while maintaining commercial appeal in its sound.
Q: What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
GVEEDOUNE: One of the most daring experiences I’ve had was during my childhood when my band performed as the opening act at a music festival. Kid Rock was one of the headliners, and while he was performing, I impulsively jumped onto the stage with my guitar and began jamming along with him. It was a lot of fun, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed this unexpected collaboration.
