“One Last Shot” by Sunday Friend, Lil Used, Kellin Quinn (Sleeping with Sirens), and Lil Lotus dropped today, September 18.
“One Last Shot” is a genre-bending single that can best be described as emo hyperpop-punk. This brand-new single provides an exciting forward pacing that’s still aware of when softer points are needed to make the more energetic points land even harder. At times, it has a full band sound, and at others the more synthy instrumentation takes hold. The three vocalists hop in one after another, which breaks the track into three distinct portions. However, lyrical and musical themes do well at tying it all together. This all benefits from Sunday Friend’s instrumentation and production. Also, the end of the track is a great blast of sound that features every vocalist adding some backing vocals.
Lyrically, “One Last Shot” is the culmination of what it feels like post-breakup while watching a former partner move on. It captures the difficult emotion of not being moved on while a former partner has. There’s a bit of spite, and a lot of hurt. The end of each vocalist’s part of the track goes, ”It’s last call for the heartache / Two drinks for the lovers / Three chances let’s get it right / So take one last on me tonight.” This serves as a good hook to be belted along to. It also captures the core of the narrative and leaves something to ponder. This track really does hit that nostalgic edge of pop-punk heartbreak but makes it new. Also, the collaborative focus truly brings everything to life.
“One Last Shot” just dropped, so now is the time to get it while it’s hot!
