In recent years the Grammys have had certain performances on a smaller stage out in the middle of the audience instead of the mainstage and it’s usually there we’ve seen the more stripped-down, vocal attentive performances. Kacey Musgraves comes to mind with her “FollowYour Arrow” performance from several years ago. All of that to say, that is where my head went as soon as Cam joined “london” alongside Wrabel. It is one of those duets that just hits you over the head, and you’re willing to risk serious injury to have them do it again and again because the song is that good.
Wrabel has been touted as one of the best singer-songwriters today and it’s hard to argue when you realize he was able to take a song he’d originally done alone, and turn it into a duet that packed an even bigger punch. Yes, Wrabel originally released this song as a solo, and alone he gave the same amount of heart but with Cam alongside for the remake, it allowed the narrative of the song to become a story that had two sides. The first version was a track that would be placed alongside Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi because jam-packed with emotion and a strong vocal? Yes, that’s where it belongs. However, Wrabel giving his song a makeover by adding Cam’s country twang gave listeners not only a new version of the story at hand but also a fresh flavor tossed into this song of yearning for a love that’s far more than a car ride away.
Spilling out his soul one song at a time, “london” was part of the collective that made up his 2021 album, ‘these words are all for you.’ That album, as well as so many more amazing things from Wrabel are available now, including his 2022 release ‘wish you well,’ on all major music and streaming platforms.
