A raw and aspiring songwriter, Jadelyn draws inspiration from multiple genres that has unapologetic broke her out of her comfort zone to create master pieces. Her songs deliver an undeniable, timeless appeal while elaborating on the human experience through her own trials and tribulations. We had the pleasure of interviewing Jadelyn, and here is what she had to say:
Q: Let’s talk about your released single “I Don’t Want Your Love”.
JADELYN: Where did the inspiration for this track come from? IDWYL was inspired by a previous relationship I was in. I wrote it several years after the fact in my old apartment with a friend and the lyrics kind of just came out of nowhere. To be completely transparent I have been in quite a few toxic relationships.
However, I do not consider this one of them. This was the first time in my life where I had to play the role of a heartbreaker for someone who was an all-around great human being. In the end, all of us are just trying to find our one. And in this specific situation I knew I had to listen to my heart even if that meant hurting someone else.
Everyone deserves to be with someone who is 100% sure of them. To this day I still have the utmost respect for this person and the last thing I wanted to do was lead him on.
Q: You usually write about heartbreaks and love you don’t want in your music. As you deserve, you are now in an awesome relationship. What type of creative journey should your fans expect next?
JADELYN: I feel so lucky to be in the relationship I am in right now. We are best friends and I’ve never felt so much admiration, love and support from another person before and the feeling is mutual. I find sad breakup songs easy to write for some reason.
I think it’s because writing music has always been my coping mechanism during the dark days where my heart is heavy. I’m not someone who has ever resorted to drugs or alcohol when I feel like my world is falling apart. I just create music. I do however plan to branch out into more upbeat/happy/feel-good songs. Of course, I would like to write a love song as well. I haven’t yet because I find it challenging to put the right words to such strong feelings.
I know I want my first love song to be lyrically accurate to what my heart is feeling. Also, I would love to create music that dives into more of who Jadelyn is and my story outside of relationships. I love writing vulnerable songs that people can listen to and really relate to. I think the most fulfilling part of being an artist is that you are able to bring out words for thoughts and feelings other people are having. This is because they don’t know how to express themselves.
Q: I always like to ask artists about where they came from and how that city or town has influenced them as artists now. So how do you think your home has affected you and your music today?
JADELYN: I grew up in a small town in Washington State called Tri-Cities. As much love as I had for that area I knew that in order to expand my talents I had to get out and move somewhere with more opportunity. I’m blessed to say I have a very tight knit family and I feel like they are a huge reason I am the person I am today.
While talent is obviously a huge part of being successful in such a cutthroat industry, I think who you are as a person and being genuine is what will take you to the top. I will forever feel like a small fish in a big pond and no matter how successful I become I will continue to find inspiration in learning from others and surrounding myself with good people.
My family has always maintained a sense of groundedness in me, which has in turn brought me many opportunities and attracted the right people. If you ever want to be humbled, you’ll want to surround yourself with a few brothers ha ha.
Q: Your style reminds us of the Victoria Secret Angels, don’t you think? Would you do a show with them if you got the opportunity? Which has been your favorite brand that you have worked with?
JADELYN: Wow what a compliment! Working with VS would be a dream. Something I am very passionate about aside from music is body positivity. There are a lot of people who say that my style and photos are more on the sexier side of things.
I love feeling confident in my skin and seeing other women embrace that side of them as well. I have always viewed the female body as art. I think it’s amazing when you can capture it in a way that makes you feel confident no matter what size you are.
I think my favorite brand I have worked with is Revolve. All of the clothes last forever and are such high quality!
Q: Would you mind sharing 5 songs you can sing from the heart all the time?
JADELYN: Tricky! I hate only being able to pick 5.
