Fusing alternative rock and hip hop into their second project of the year, MISSIO has released their EP I Am High, available everywhere now. This follows their first EP I Am Sad, which they shared was their first emotion before escapism – which is where this EP comes in.
I Am High begins with the track “Good Vibrations,” the song has a dark and edgy sound, with sultry vocals and heavy electric guitars, it sets the tone as an intense yet feel good song, It then transitions into “Easy,” which switches up the sound from heavy alt rock to a more electronic feeling. The synths are more present on this song, and it channels a more top 40 feel with a relatable sound. The third track “Thang Thang” shows up the duo’s rap/hip-hop sound. Overall, the band has a talent for being able to excel at being a blend of genres and having the ability to let certain genres shine more than others depending on the track.
It was a unique idea to let the songs tie together more lyrically than sonically, but it is an excellent way to capture the array of emotions that one feels when using a vice as a form of escapism.
When talking about their decision to title the EP I am High and cover the topic of being high, MISSIO shared, “People tend to hear the word ‘high’ and associate it with substance abuse, however, we all have a variety of vices we escape to on a daily basis (i.e., phone, social media, food).”
It is an extremely creative project, and every track has an extremely clear and polished vision. This EP has a song that everyone can enjoy and relate to, making them exciting as both songwriters and musicians.
