“Hollow” – Gina Livia (prod. by Tez Cadey)

We had the pleasure of interviewing Gina Livia, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: Could you give us a background story of how you got the idea for “Hollow”?

LIVIA: “Hollow” is a song about mental health. About how fast your mind can switch and focus on the dark. About the depth of sadness and the depth of thoughts and feelings, which control your whole thinking area. And in this thinking area, you feel seen and understood in a weird unhealthy way. But “Hollow” is also about this urge to follow through, to not give in. Cause if life is meant to go this way, I will follow.

Q: What did you enjoy the most about working with Tez Cadey?

LIVIA: Tez Cadey (Malo Brisout de Barneville) is an absolute legend. I truly mean that he has the most beautiful mind when it comes to music. He knows how to understand a song and he knows how to turn horribly sad lyrics into danceable and enjoyable sounds – without losing the emotions. It’s the third song that we’ve worked on together and it won’t be the last. Working with him makes me feel understood and challenges me as an artist.

Q: Could you walk us through your creative and production process for this song?

LIVIA: Funny thing about this whole social media generation – I posted a snippet on my Instagram story, which he responded to and asked if he could try some things out and play with it. And of course, I loved that idea, cause most of the time I have absolutely no idea where to go with a song haha. So I went into my little studio at home and recorded the guitar and the vocals and sent it to him. The rest is what you hear on the final note.

Q: What is your favorite memory so far from your journey as a musician?

LIVIA: Meeting people and working with different artists. Also working in different genres, I hate to only write in one genre, like there is sooo much more music out there, why just focus on one *_* the world is huge and so is the creative mind.

Q: Could you possibly see yourself doing anything else full-time?

LIVIA: Actually I am a teacher (full-time) and music is my side work. But of course, music is the dream and my hopefully final destination one day. I think the mix of both makes my life very balanced (and stressful in some way) all in all I just love working with humans.

Q: How does your musical roadmap for the rest of the year look?

LIVIA: My main goal for this year or the next is to finally release a solo EP, in more of a singer-songwriter alt-pop style, with more acoustic sounds and stuff. But you know, life is busy, that’s why I have to wait and see where this journey may take me.
