“Follow Through” – Devin Kennedy

As someone who has juggled upwards of a dozen writing gigs at one time in their early 20’s to make sure they never had to give in to a 9-5, “Follow Through” by Devin Kennedy hit hard. This upbeat bedroom pop moment will have the same impact on anyone and everyone who knows that the struggle is real when one’s eye is on the daydream prize.

Devin Kennedy has big goals and hasn’t been afraid of putting in long hours to make them a reality. Working with heavy hitters from Ben Platt to Andy Grammer, this singer-songwriter put away his royalty earnings every step of the way, made smart moves, and has been focusing on his own material since 2018’s ‘Feel the Same’ EP. “Follow Through” is sort of a realization and homage to all of the hours that have preceded this single. All the sacrifices he’s had to make elsewhere in life to get to where he is. It can be hard to work what seems like 24/7 on one thing. So much so, you start to lose out on everything else that matters in life. “Follow Through” captures just what it means to put so much in one basket.

Having been there and then some, “Follow Through” is truly for the dreamers out there, but it can also serve as a warning to maybe take a break every once in a while. A lesson put to a wonderful song that showcases not only Devin Kennedy’s smooth vocals, but also this indie-pop sound that has a bit of a ‘70s groove to it. It has more of a pop to it than his previous, “Warm Fuzzy” which leaned more towards the R&B meets pop route like Justin Bieber’s latest releases.
