“Cotton Candy” by Estella Dawn

Have you ever wanted someone so badly that you would do whatever it takes to have it your way? The new EP “Cotton Candy” by Estella Dawn fills the gaps between lust and love with precision and heart. There is a physical attraction towards someone that bridges the notion of having that ultimate feeling of attraction. We had the pleasure of interviewing Estella Dawn, and here is what she had to say:

Q: Hi Estella, welcome to the Music and Fashion Blog! Tell me three core elements about how the song “Cotton Candy” came about?

ESTELLA: This song has undergone through a bit of an evolution. I wrote the original lyrics around 5 years ago and it sat as a phone note for years. I revisited it in 2020 when I was picking songs to record in the studio with a full band. I wrote the production to suit that style which is how I was planning on releasing it. Then more recently I did a full 180 and decided I wanted to give it more of a pop feel which is the version you can stream today! I may still release the band version, we’ll see!

Q: You have 64.3k followers on TikTok. How did you develop your content and manage to balance being an artist?

ESTELLA: Balance? What’s that?! Just kidding, like any artist today I’m doing my best to keep all of my balls in the air. I think creating weekly/monthly checklists really helps. When you’re cranking out a lot of different types of content it’s super easy to forget things. But I also feel really thankful to have a platform like TikTok. It’s nice to be able to put up raw unreleased demos and get a gauge on whether people vibe with them. I don’t think TikTok is the definitive indicator of what an outstanding song is. However, ultimately all an artist is trying to do is get their music in front of as many people as possible, so it’s a really helpful tool.

Q: Which artists are you listening to right now?

ESTELLA: Right now, Debussy, I really adore classical music. But I’ve also been hooked on Emei and Bea Miller recently.

Q: What inspired you to start making music?

ESTELLAI can’t say there was any specific moment or person that inspired me. I started singing at a very young age. I would make up nonsense songs for hours. As I got older I picked up a few instruments and began my journey into producing and my songwriting got more refined from there. I’m lucky to have had extremely supportive people along the way encouraging me and helping me up-skill.

Q: You have fabulous fashion sense! What are your favorite brands?

ESTELLAWell that was a compliment I didn’t expect. You are far too kind, thank you! I feel like I either dress really casually or I like to be super dolled up. I can’t live without Cariuma sneakers. They’re super comfy and cute. I get a lot of pieces from Finesse Studios. They make affordable and interesting clothing and they’re based in the US. I also use “Rent The Runway” for shoots and jewelry. You can pick and choose what you like and swap things out which is nice – they have so many fun designers. Oh and I can’t live without a TNA cropped tank… I have like 100 of them.

Q: How has 2022/2023 and the events within it impacted your creative style?

ESTELLA: I think I have grown more as a songwriter and producer so I am so much more comfortable in my own skin and expressing myself creatively. Right now I’m making music that pulls more from my personal experiences – it’s therapeutic. 2022 had a lot of highs and lows for me personally and with that came writing through a more emotional lens.
