If we stole “Twilight” character Bella Swan’s Ipod nano, “Autumn Through Your Eyes” by Avi Kytes would probably be one of the first things playing. It’s indie rock instrumentals are a serene backdrop to the plaintive lyrics that Kytes paints. He delicately unfolds the waning days of a relationship, cleverly mirroring the poignant changes of autumn. “Autumn Through Your Eyes” creates very vivid imagery to the point where the lyrics freeze moments in time—a leaf brushing a face, golden silences, and fading hands. The song’s progression, from a soft acoustic start to an explosive climax, mimics the emotional unraveling of a love gently slipping away. But do not get it twisted—this is not a tale of heartbreak. I feel like this song is more of a poetic acknowledgment of love’s natural transition, and Kytes leaves a lingering wish to experience autumn through the eyes of a fading romance.
