“Harder” – Lain Roy

We had the pleasure of interviewing Lain Roy, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What set you on your path as a musician?

ROY: My mother was a touring musician and was on the TV show “You Can Be A Star”, and I wanted to be like her. So, I tried out for American Idol and The Voice, and I was on both TV shows. I went to school for music, and now I live in LA creating music and have/am working for big-name musicians.

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being able to create music?

ROY: I enjoy the process of seeing a short mumbling voice memo or a lyric line turn into a full production. The process and working with amazing people is the best part of creating.

Q: How did you get the idea for this song?

ROY: I went through a really rough breakup. I thought she was the one at that point, and the song came from reconnecting one month later and seeing that she was doing amazing, and I was a wreck. She took it hard (initially), but it turns out I took it harder.

Q: What would you like your music to mean to people now and in the future?

ROY: There is meaning in relatability. Music is about connection, and all of our stories intertwine with one another’s. Even if it isn’t the same story, I want people to understand what it could feel like.

Q: Is there anything else you could see yourself doing full-time if you weren’t a musician?

ROY: I definitely see myself later on being a dad, but I can’t see myself doing much else besides music as a profession.
