“Conman” by Eiza Murphy

Have you ever witnessed a bubbly and socially-welcoming person shut everyone out after experiencing a betrayal? Eiza Murphy sings about her experience witnessing such a drastic change in personality in her latest release, “Conman,” which was produced by her sister Lenii. We had the pleasure of interviewing Eiza Murphy, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: What was your process for creating “Conman”?

MURPHY: I wrote Conman in fifteen minutes while my sister had friends over. I sang really quietly so that they wouldn’t hear, and basically just word-vomited the whole song into the mic. I was completely unattached to it at first because I thought it was too blunt, but my sister and I were supposed to work on a different song that day and when I played her the demo of Conman, she refused to work on anything else. So, Conman was started and finished that day and hasn’t been touched since.

Q: What’s the story behind this song?

MURPHY: Conman is about being deceived by someone and becoming closed off or emotionally unavailable. I think I’ve known two or three people in my life who have had a personality flip, and it’s a really strange thing to experience. It’s like their emotions shut off and they seem almost robotic, or their personality just completely changes. So, I wrote about that.

Q: What do you enjoy most about creating music?

MURPHY: I love songwriting the most – and making music with my sister. She produces nearly all of my songs, and I would choose to do that with her every day above anything else people do for fun

Q: Could you possibly see yourself doing something else if you weren’t a musician? If so, what would it be?

MURPHY: I’ve always only wanted to do music, so not really. I do photography a lot at the moment to create my music artwork and videos (as well as my sister’s and friend’s content), but I don’t think that alone would fulfill me enough.

Q: What’s your all-time favorite song? Why?

MURPHY: It changes all the time, but I think a song I’ll always love is “Spirit Bird” by Xavier Rudd. It’s so different from the music I make and listen to, but it always makes me feel good.

Q: What would you like to tell your supporters?

MURPHY: Thank you for listening!! I have a lott more music lined up, and I’m releasing a lot more this year.
