“Vertigo” – Tealousy

“Vertigo” by Tealousy is a masterclass on how to write an effective R&B song, then make it indulgently interesting with meticulous sound design. With its distorted vocals, uplifting samples, and subtly tasteful white noise, this track has an atmosphere all its own. Plus, you’ll get lost in the catchy, sentimental melodies. If you love Frank Ocean, you’ll be obsessed with “Vertigo.”

“What am I to do?” the singer drapes a smooth run over a bittersweet synth chord. The verse unravels with even more syllabic, touching melodies as the keyboard plays on. Effects like reverb, echo, and distortion practically drip off of the lead vocal. Bass and drums soon join, adding a bit of structure to the dreaminess. The structure then develops into a deep groove as the chorus arrives and the harmonic textures thicken. This section overflows with background vocals, both clinging to the original melody and weaving their own. By now, you’ve got a good idea of the sultry, spacey ambiance. It’s one of those tracks that just oozes goodness without a need for too much analysis or thought. Your body just kind of melts into it.

Stay tuned for a jaw-dropping vocal performance characterized by control, agility, speed, taste, and emotional gravity. Then, with an unexpected twist, a spoken sample coasts over the instrumentation to solidify the track as multi-textural, artistic, and brilliantly creative. Be sure to give Tealousy a follow, a listen, and a download! You’ll be so glad you discovered this authentic, talented artist.
