“BOSS SHIT” by DJ ASAP x Jake & Papa x Derek King x Jonn hart

DJ ASAP has teamed up with Jake & Papa, Derek King, and Jonn hart to create “BOSS SHIT,” a catchy new hit. It is an infectious tune that aptly spotlights the talent and diversity of The Bay Area, which DJ ASAP is known for championing. We had the pleasure of interviewing DJ ASAP, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What inspired this talented collaboration?

DJ ASAP: Once I got the hook from Derek King, that set the foundation for what needed to happen next.

Q: Was there a clear direction/idea of how you wanted “BOSS SHIT” to sound before you started creating it or did it come together in bits and pieces?

DJ ASAP: I got a pack of beats together before the studio session with Derek King. After playing all the beats, this beat by Traxx From The Rich is what Derek gravitated to. Then I reached out to all the West Coast Rnb singers that I wanted. Verse by verse it came together.

Q: What role do you think music played in the early years of your life?

DJ ASAP: I have a few family members that are musicians. That definitely inspired me to pursue it.

Q: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

DJ ASAP: Let the music be great. Meaning, just because someone doesn’t have a big following, that shouldn’t stop platforms from recognizing that it should get played along with everything else. Vice versa, just because an artist is big doesn’t mean all of their songs should get all the love if it is not good.

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring musicians?

DJ ASAP: Always have fun doing this. And stop holding on to that music. Let it go.

Q: Can we expect to hear more from this collaboration? What projects are you currently working on?

DJ ASAP: I only get what artists decide to hop on. I have a Latin artist I’m helping out. A song with Mozzy another with Guapdad4000, and a few bigger features that can’t be named until we can get them cleared.

Q: Sounds exciting! I wish you the best with all this, and we look forward to hearing more from you!
