“Secrets” by Cherise features a soul-warming, smooth beat in the background. Lyrics from Cherise’s song selection about coming to terms with deeper meaning – with empathy for the human condition. We had the pleasure of interviewing Cherise, and here is what she had to say:
Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you become the musician you are today? Where were you from and what were your early artistic inspirations?
CHERISE: I’m from Luton and proud, haha. My parents are Hackney born Jamaicans. They met when they were 12 in church after all my Grandparents became friends, after migrating from Jamaica as a part of the Windrush generation
Luton and Hackney both have a vibrant and rich Caribbean culture, and this has been a huge inspiration for my music.
Q: What has been one of your favorite memories of your music career thus far?
CHERISE: Performing live and meeting the people who listen to my music is the highlight of my career for sure! It’s always amazing to see that the music has resonated, because so much time is spent behind the scenes trying to prepare, write, collaborate and hustle. Connecting with fans is a huge blessing
Q: Tell us about the recording process behind “Secrets”?
CHERISE: I have been recording the album “Secrets” and my upcoming project at the legendary Metropolis Studios in West London. And “Secrets” was produced by Tobie Tripp! He’s such a stellar producer and musician. I’m thrilled to have created this with him. And I co-wrote “Secrets” with Linden Jay, who is known for co-writing ‘Woman’ by Doja Cat. He knows his R&B and I loved working with him.
Q: For those who are new to you and your music, what’s one thing we should know about Cherise?
CHERISE: All I want to do is sing with my soul. And that’s bigger than the genre. It means I want to enrich every melody I sing with a deeper meaning – with empathy for the human condition. I hope that people feel more settled in their skin when connected to my music
