“Coincidence” by Lindsay Liebro possesses many salient qualities, but the most captivating might just be its heartrending relatability. As this meticulously constructed rock track drives on, the listener might be tempted to gloss over the lyrical content and bask in the music. However, in a manner only rivaled by “Gives You Hell” by the All American Rejects, this song sharpens a sour, jealous feeling down to a point. The words take an inherently disheartening situation and package it with class, charm, and most of all catchiness.
Now, to be clear, this is not that “screw you,” kind of message we often expect from a breakup song. Lindsay shifts the perspective to something slightly more bittersweet. She chimes, “Maybe I’d find you by happenstance / And we’d get our second chance,” implying she regrets the relationship ended and wishes some “deus ex machina” kind of experience will bring them back together. The lyrics go on to list moments she’d loath to see him enjoy with another person, which is, quite frankly, a thought most if not all of us have had in our lifetimes. The listener is able to truly experience catharsis through Lindsay’s use of simple, to-the-point language.
As for the music, there’s a lot you can sink your teeth into. Chunky, distorted power chords, tight harmonies, and impossibly particular drums grace the mix. The melody ebbs and flows in all of the right places, allowing for both pitch and dynamic variety. Writing and production-wise, there’s not a dull moment. It goes without saying that this is a solid track.
