“end up” – diognardi

Something about “end up” from diognardi took me back to the days of low rise jeans, ‘The Hills’ on MTV, and phrases like “that’s hot.” Yes, it had a very 2000’s vibe going on with hints of Ryan Cabrera’s catchy pop-rock ways, but at the end of the day, it was quite the unique experience due to the way diognardi infused hip hop beats into the mix. Alas, this is a song for then and now, but how did we end up here?

Well, it all started back in 2021 when diognardi decided it was time to drop his debut EP, ‘slowly, deliberately.’ Five songs deep, the record features a great blend of heartfelt pop moments like “how do we do this?” as well as more eclectic moments like the EP’s second single, “end up.” That song definitely jumps out from the pack due to those hip hop beats, but what I think grounded it and made it a fantastic track to lose one’s self in was the narrative. Lyrically, this is for the hopeless romantics out there yearning for another song to put on their playlists to help them cope with the idea of love, and the reality of it being just out of reach for one reason or another.

diognardi spent a decade touring as a drummer and it’s easy enough to hear the pop-punk his sound is rooted in, but the pop elements are so strong that I could see “end up,” as well as a few other of his tracks landing besides playlists that include everyone from Avril Lavigne to Simple Plan. He gives you a bit of everything, and then some, with each listen. Making diognardi a wild ride of a time.
