“Half Awake” – GRAACE

The thing about life is that it makes very little sense. Right? You truly never know what the next minute of life holds. For GRAACE, life hit her with an unexpected, heartbreaking moment a decade ago when she lost her father. From how she tells it, it seemed like just an ordinary day, but the tragedy that unfolded left her with an inability to close her eyes at the end of the day. All of the above led to her pouring herself into her latest, “Half Awake.”

Singers who don’t write from the heart have to be great actors to make us believe the emotion in their music. GRAACE never had to fake a moment of “Half Awake.” It doesn’t take long for one to realize this is a song of loss, a song built around a level of sadness only those in similar situations have reached. GRAACE doesn’t hold back and because of that every line is this melancholic string wrapped around your heart. That’s lyrically speaking, as for the music – she finds this balance of simplistic singer-songwriter and larger pop ballad moments once the chorus hits each time.

GRAACE didn’t have to share such a personal part of her existence with the world, but she did and fans of everyone from Phoebe Bridgers to Haley Heynderickx will be grateful she did. At least that’s what those in her native Australia are saying as GRAACE continues to rise in the ranks as one of Sydney’s new favorite artists thanks to songs like “Sentimental” and “Body Language.” Those wanting more new music from GRAACE will have to wait until her new EP, ‘Self Perservation’ drops in early 2022, but for now check out “Half Awake,” out now on all major music and streaming sites.
