“What Am I To Do?” – Oliver Malcolm

We had the pleasure of interviewing Oliver Malcolm, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What’s the story behind “What Am I To Do”?

MALCOLM: I wrote this song when I was literally stuck with what to do next, not being sure what the next move to make is, so why not make a song about it?

Q: What effect were you going for while creating this song?

MALCOLM: Just expressing myself.

Q: At what point did you decide on the instrumentation and how did you go about this?

MALCOLM: I usually just do it in the moment, I don’t procrastinate on what to do or overthink it, that just leads to forced music, the force is only good if you’re in Star Wars.

Q: How would you describe the type of music that you typically create?

MALCOLM: Supersonic soul fusion.

Q: What drives you to make music?

MALCOLM: A classic European car from the 60’s or 70’s.

Q: If you could be an instrument, what would you choose to be? Why? Which do you play?

MALCOM.: If I could be an instrument I’d be an electric guitar because they’re badass, I play guitar, and keys, and sing.
