Drag superstars Violet Chachki and Gottmik have just released their first collaborative track, “TKO,” in preparation for their upcoming tour, THE KNOCKOUT TOUR!
“TKO” by Violet Chachki and Gottmik is an energetic powerhouse of a dance/electronic track that breaks the boundaries of music in the drag scene while also keeping its excitement and allure. For a track that trades lyrical blows between the queens with a boxing-based music video, it packs a perfect punch. Also, the bass-focused instrumentation provides a great rush in this track with its snappy pacing. In the music alone, there’s a distinct confidence all around, and this comes from both vocalists and the instrumentation. It’s definitely the kind of track to listen to whenever you need a boost in energy for any occasion. Additionally, something that stands out about this track is that it doesn’t fit the common theme of certain artists taking certain verses. Each verse features both artists, and this fits the narrative of trading blows as shown in the music video and heard in the lyrical narrative.
Lyrically, this track shows what it’s like when two unstoppable forces meet head to head. In the verses, the Violet and Gottmik jump back and forth in a way that expresses backbone and power on both sides. Both voices in the track want to fight, and they both know they’re everything. Neither side backs down, and each of them seems to know they’re going to be the one who wins. Then in the chorus, both sides harmonize, “TKO, it’s a total knockout.” Overall, it tells the story of a perfect feud between two stars with enough confidence to move mountains.
Violet Chachki and Gottmik are both drag queens who definitely brought their own it factor to RuPaul’s Drag Race. Avoiding spoilers, they both did very well and brought personas that are unique, glamorous, and multifaceted. Both of them have a knack for fashion, and they’re strong with live performances. Also, “TKO” is one of many instances that show their ability to craft some stand-out music. Currently, they’re gearing up to travel the U.S. in THE KNOCKOUT TOUR. “TKO” is a strong release from both artists, so it’s exciting to think of what they may bring to the stage.
