“The Road Back” – Louis Pax

We had the pleasure of interviewing Louis Pax, and here’s what they had to say:

Q: What inspired the name Louis Pax? Are any of you named Louis?

LOUIS PAX: This is a common question but no, no-one of us is called Louis. The idea was to find a name that didn’t mean anything, and put more focus on the music and the creative context around it – Louis Pax can be what it wants and needs to be. We loved the idea of a name that people could think was a one man band but also represent a group of people. We’d like to see Louis Pax as a community or an idea that is continuously developing and evolving in the creative field. Sure, we’re a band of three people, but there’s so much more to Louis Pax then that. Louis Pax will evolve and become more – that’s the vision and that’s the idea.

Q: How would you say your sound has evolved since you started this band?

OUIS PAX: When we started we were just kids. We wanted to do everything, which is still true in a way, but back then the music was so influenced by only one band or one typical genrer. As we’ve grown over the years we dear to take more risks in our creative space, which is also the idea behind the band today. One day we could do a full on pop/rock song but the other day we feel like doing a more country ballad or perhaps something much more electronic.

Q: How do you balance each other out when you want to try different things?

LOUIS PAX: Some of us are more restrained in the studio than others. But I think, since we’ve been together for such a long time we know and trust each other and we have developed a chemistry and closeness that allows us to be very open and true to each other. If we have different ideas, we don’t see any problems in trying them out first and then openly discussing what works best and seeing it as a joint Louis Pax idea – we don’t believe in individual credits as such.

Q: What do you like the most about creating music?

LOUIS PAX: The overall ability to create and express yourself, and I think a lot of people can relate here. We all go around our lives reflecting on life and we need to digest it in some way – for us that way is music, and music gives us a freedom and a playground to create what we want. And in this, it’s also the way you can connect with others through our music, being the songs it self or when we perform live.

Q: What’s the story behind “the road back”?

LOUIS PAX: “the road back” describes a persons struggling with how to relate to a past relationship, longing for the past, but also realizing why it ended and why it can’t be. It’s this bitter sweet feeling we can have when looking back at something that didn’t last and left us with both good and bad memories.

Q: Can you give us a peek into what you have planned for this year regarding your music?

LOUIS PAX: We have an EP coming up called ”in case I don’t see ya part I”, which is, as the name might give away, the first EP in a 2 EP series. The first part will be released already in 2 weeks, June 1st, and the second will be out in the fall, both containing 6 new songs. We are very much looking forward to releasing the EPs and start performing our new songs.
