“Stay High” – Tom Kaye

“Stay High” by Tom Kaye is a song that describes a tale as old as time about heartbreak and emotional turmoil resulting from a toxic and manipulative relationship. Kaye appears to have been deceived and used by their partner, who treated love as a game and played with their emotions. Kaye portrays a complex and emotional situation where they feel deeply hurt by their partner who seems to not value the depth of their feelings. Even though Kaye grapples with their emotions, they utilize their talent via music as a means of expressing their pain and seeking understanding from their partner, despite the partner’s dismissive attitude. Even though the lyrics sound really dark and melancholy, the low-fi melody and Kaye’s upbeat demeanor and tonality show that you can exact revenge in the most sweetest way.
