“Self Sabotage” – Kacey Fifield

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kacey Fifield, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: What motivated you to create and share “Self Sabotage”?

FIFIELD: The idea for the first verse came to me while walking to Office Depot with my best friend and talking about her ex. I set to write a song from his POV and, as I was writing, I realized how relatable the human tendency to self-sabotage is and decided I had to release the song to let listeners know that making mistakes and being in the wrong is something everyone goes through.

Q: What is one thing you’d like listeners to take away from this song?

FIFIELD: I want listeners to be able to use the song to reflect on relationships where they may have been the problem and/or the people who used to be in their lives that may have sabotaged their relationship. Most of all, I want everyone to have fun dancing and singing along!

Q: In what ways do you think your songs reflect your personality?

FIFIELD: My lyrics are basically my journal. I write about my life and what I observe in the people around me. I’m still discovering who I am as a person and as an artist so I think my songs reflect the changing dynamics of growing up in such a complicated world.

Q: What role do you think music played in the early years of your life?

FIFIELD: Taylor Swift, Big Time Rush, and the soundtracks of all the Disney and Nickelodeon shows definitely shaped my childhood! Those were the first songs I remember listening to and loving, so they definitely still hold a special place in my heart.

Q: Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire in them?

FIFIELD There are so many! I really admire honesty and authenticity, so I’m a big fan of singer-songwriters like Taylor Swift, Lorde, Conan Gray, and Gracie Abrams. I think they’re so true to themselves in all of their songs which is so important when we live in a world where people often pretend to be someone they’re not just for the sake of fame. That’s how I strive to be as an artist!

Q: What projects are currently in the works?

FIFIELD: I’m always working on new music! There are definitely more to come and I can’t wait to share my next project with everyone. I’m also performing live at the iconic Whisky A Go Go on August 5th at 9 pm! Tickets are available at kaceyfifield.com * – *
