“Rerun” by up-and-coming Canadian artist KYLO has such a beautiful, catchy tune that’s sure to stay stuck in your head. With lush vocals and well-written lyrics expressing the good and the bad that come with being in a relationship, “Rerun” is certainly alluring. We had the pleasure of interviewing KYLO, and here’s what she had to say:
Q: What drives you to create music?
KYLO: Honestly just life. All the emotions and experiences that get a bit overwhelming sometimes. When I don’t know what else to do with them, I just use my music to let it out.
Q: What did you enjoy most about making the video for “Rerun”? What inspired it?
KYLO: We did a very DIY approach for this video so it was really cool to just wander around the city with my friends and a camcorder and just have a fun time doing it. This video was inspired by tv reruns and getting shots of me to have played then rewound and played over again and again.
Q: What inspired your lyrics?
KYLO: The inspiration for these lyrics was from feeling a certain way while in a relationship that was becoming a bit stale. That feeling and relating it to the comfort you feel when watching a tv rerun because you know what to expect.
Q: In what ways do you think your songs reflect your personality?
KYLO: I feel like the fun, upbeat, carefree energy of this track matches my outgoing and even loud character for sure, haha.
Q: Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire in them?
KYLO: So many I feel bad just saying a few! But I recently just saw Tove Lo perform live at History in Toronto and her vocals live blew me away. To be able to tour and perform with that same energy every night is so wild! I have so many musical inspirations but some include Janis Joplin, Joji, Grimes, Blood Orange, First Aid Kit, and Negative Gemini.
Q: Do you play any instruments – if so, which? If not, which would you like to learn and why?
KYLO: I play guitar! I would love to get more skilled at piano/keys maybe down the road, just because that is the main instrument that is used in my tracks, and would be cool to have that for songwriting purposes, but for now I just use guitar to write!
