“Raised By Wolves” by Haven Everly

Los-Angeles based singer-songwriter, actress, and content creator Haven Everly tells a story of perseverance and triumph in “Raised By Wolves,” which was inspired by her personal experiences that have shaped her into the talented and resilient artist she is today. We had the pleasure of interviewing Haven Everly, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: Aside from making music, what do you spend the bulk of your time doing?

EVERLY: I’m also an actress and content creator, so aside from music, I spend the bulk of my time auditioning, creating content, doing yoga, and planning my next trip hehe.

Q: What is the story behind or what inspired “Raised By Wolves”?

EVERLY: “Raised By Wolves” was inspired by my experience growing up in the music industry. At a very young age, my sisters and I were hustling and finding ways to make money for the family. We didn’t grow up rich, so we felt like singing and making music was not only what we loved to do, but it was also our way out of poverty. This song talks about the grit and the hardship we encountered along the way. We faced a lot of adversity from record labels because, at the time, there weren’t any Asian female pop groups in the United States. We got to see a dark side to the industry.

Q: I’m so sorry you and your sisters experienced that. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. What was your creative and production process for this song?

EVERLY: I wrote this song years ago, but I couldn’t find the right producer to collaborate on it with me until I met NKLAI. When I told him about the vision that I had for this song, he completely understood me. He and I sat in his studio and finished writing the last parts of the song. It took a few months of re-recording and editing the production to finally get it mastered.

Q: What effect would you like your music to have on listeners?

EVERLY: I hope my music inspires others to feel empowered and unapologetically confident.

Q: What got you interested in making music?

EVERLY: My parents were professional singers. My dad started a DJ business when I was a baby, so he and my mom really influenced my passion for music. When I was 5 years old, my sisters and I started a girl group. We started off singing at local parties and events and eventually sang at stages such as NJ’s Prudential Center Gospel Fest, NYC Apollo Theater, and NBA games at Sacramento’s Arco Arena.

Q: Who is one artist you would really love to work with at some point in your music career?

EVERLY: I would really love to work with Bruno Mars. He is an incredible writer and is also Filipino! I love how he makes old-school funk modern and his ballads always pull on the heartstring.
