“Raise Your Voice” – Aedon

With empowering lyrics and thoughtful instrumentation, German rock group Aedon has released their second EP Raise Your Voice. This follows their 2016 EP, Leaves Turn Red,which was released just a year after the band formed. The group has already found success across Europe, playing festivals throughout Germany like Essen Original and Hardtbeat Festival. In the EP, they dive into a number of topics including love, loss, and more.

Across the EP as a whole, the band explores the depth of their sound, from more acoustic ballads to progressive rock anthems, this EP captures what the band is capable of. The title track, “Raise Your Voice,” is a motivational anthem. The vocals soar throughout the track and the larger-than-life feeling of the guitars is stunning. “Raise your voice, until the sun starts to shine,” they sing, the song’s lyrics are able to validate the hardships of life but also become a beacon of hope. This single is accompanied by the band in the studio creating the magic.

“Change The World” is a complete 180 from the first track in the best way. It takes the positivity from the first song but amps up the angst and edge. The chorus has a booming bass and driving melody, it is an exciting twist and shows the bands’ ability to experiment.

The last track, “Gentle Rain,” is more of a softer ballad. The guitar picking mimicking rain drops and giving an overall fairytale feeling. The chord progression is unique and modern, it is unpredictable in the best way. “Would you wash away my pain,” the lyrics sing before jolting into a beautiful orchestral solo filled with drums, violins, and guitars.

Overall, Aedon put only their best on this EP. They kept lyrics at the forefront and the instrumentals followed the storylines they built. It is impressive that they have made such bold and fresh rock. Their EP Raise Your Voice as well as the music video for their track “Change The World” are out now – go give them a listen!
