“Problems” by CeCe

If you’ve ever been betrayed by someone you love, CeCe offers you an outlet in her latest release, “Problems.” Hopefully, the bold lyricism and absorbing rock melody will have a cathartic effect on you. We had the pleasure of interviewing CeCe, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: I loved the fiery, unreserved lyricism and powerful vocal delivery! Do you mind sharing the story behind “Problems” with us?

CECE: One of my really good friends came to me after they found out that their fiancé had been cheating on them their entire relationship. They were so heartbroken; I was fuming for them. So we wrote this song as a way to get the hurt out while also hoping this song would haunt their ex for all of eternity. 😂

Q: What was your songwriting process for this song?

CECE: I was in the studio and we were trying to figure out what to write about, so I told my cowriters this story and the rest just came flowing out. I think we wrote the whole thing in an hour.

Q: I see you designed and made the outfit you used on the cover art. What was your inspiration for it? What were you hoping to convey?

CECE: Honestly, I just really wanted to create a striking red monochromatic visual. It was more about conveying the emotion that is reflected in the color red, also referencing the “scarlet letter” (which was formerly the mark of an adulterer). Red just seemed like the only choice to accompany this song paired with my go-to oversized silhouette.

Q: What would you say was the most stressful aspect of creating this song?

CECE: This song wasn’t stressful at all to make. I wanted to be mindful that I was doing the story justice for the sake of my friend, of course, but this was a story that needed to be told, so it was created rather seamlessly.

Q: What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t a musician?

CECE: Music and creativity are in my DNA, I don’t think I could be rid of them if I tried. But if I wasn’t doing music as a career I could also see myself just moving to a ranch in the middle of nowhere, having some babies and a bunch of horses, and living a really simple life. I’d still sing, but maybe just lullabies. I’d still make clothes, but maybe just for the school play. Sounds kind of nice doesn’t it? But the truth is, I was born to do what I am doing now and I’ve felt that in my gut since I was very little. The world deserves my music and I’m going to give it. Even if I tried to do something else I would always find my way back to this because this is my calling.

Q: I love the conviction! What would you say was the highlight of your 2022 and what are you looking forward to this year?

CECE: Highlight of 2022 was releasing FUEO and shooting my favorite video ever for it. I’m looking forward to putting out even more great music this year.
