Play on Venus (Live) – Lí-Lí Octave

Singer-songwriter Lí-Lí Octave’s latest album, “Play on Venus,” is a sultry, profound body of art–all the more captivating because it’s recorded live. Inspired by the famous saying, “Women are from Venus; Men are from Mars,” the album title offers a unique female perspective. “Play on Venus” is sung from a woman’s point of view of her daily experiences, all intertwined with beautiful, soulful sounds.

“Play on Venus” opens strongly with “Wait (For Your Love),” serving as both a power anthem and a heartbreaking goodbye song. The song highlights the end of a relationship–Lí-Lí’s unique blend of power and vulnerability is showcased within this track. Lyrics about no longer settling or waiting to be loved correctly are interwoven with bluesy guitar, piano, and an infectious melody. The lyrics, “All you do is make me wait,” are repeated until she finally lets go, as the song comes to a soft close.

The following track, “Lay it Down,” takes a step from the previous, with this being a full-on love song. Lí-Lí’s romantic, witty lyrics are sung over a sensual instrumental. Lí-Lí’s sound is fusing and ever-changing; Songs like “Struggling” and “Get Off Me” are powerful, emotional ballads, while a song like “Grandma’s Kitchen” is more of a fun-loving, jazzy tune, showcasing the wide variety of Lí-Lí’s musical styles.

A song like “Out of Place” entirely takes on the female perspective of feelings and emotions, precisely feelings of love.  Lí-Lí vocals are sung over a beautifully calming instrumental, with an electric guitar subtly coming in, bringing a rock element to the album. The album concludes with the final track, “Top Of The World,” which takes a new turn from the previous songs. It’s a jazzy, almost disco-at-times tune that will get anyone dancing, leaving the album on a fun note.

“Play on Venus” is now available on all major music streaming platforms. Take a listen today!
