“Nothing At All” – Vilhelm Buchaus

We had the pleasure of interviewing Vilhelm Buchaus, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What does “Nothing At All” mean to you?

BUCHAUS: “Nothing At All” really means a lot to me since it was one of the first songs that I wrote when I had just come out of a recent relationship. I got to write down what I felt, which made me process what had happened. I will always look back on the song and think about that period of my life. It’s almost like a diary.

Q: Could you walk us through the production process for this song?

BUCHAUS: “Nothing At All” came from an idea about writing a song with a lot of emotion. We started writing the song on the piano, and when we felt like we had the piano parts and the lyrics right, we started to build the production around it. Our one rule when we were putting together the song was that all instruments had to be live recorded in order to get the feeling of a live band. We took a lot of inspiration from early Coldplay albums for that. Having this type of production for the song felt fitting since my sound is very live-based.

Q: What would you like your music to mean to people now and in the future?

BUCHAUS: My dream has always been that people will relate to my music in the same way that I have related and connected to the songs of my musical heroes. I wish that my sound could stay relevant for a long time so that people could discover my music many years from now.

Q: What do you like the most about being able to create music?

BUCHAUS: Each day is different when creating music, and you can never prepare yourself for what’s next in a creative process. Every new song is a challenge, and to be able to constantly write about how you feel, no matter if it’s good or bad, is helping a lot to process what you’re going through in life.

Q: Is there anything else you could see yourself doing full-time if you weren’t a musician?

BUCHAUS: I’ve always wanted to be a musician, so I’ve never really thought about that. I’m really into motorsport, so maybe I would have tried that out, or I’d be an author at a music blog 😉

Q: Who’s one artist you think has had a significant impact on your sound?

BUCHAUS: For me, it’s John Mayer. He was the one who first inspired me to pick up a guitar and start writing my own songs. I was really blown away by his songwriting abilities and knew that I just had to write songs like him one day. I think that the organic sound in his songs resonates in the sound of my music today.
